Italian Meatball Recipe

This traditional Italian meatball recipe with non-traditional sauce (store purchased) will get you out of the kitchen fast.

A true Sicilian would only bake this recipe for Italian meatballs, but I prefer to get a nice golden crust on the outside of the meatballs first, before finishing them off in the oven, along with the sauce.

Slice open a large homemade roll and make a quick meal with this easy meatball recipe. Top it off with some sauce, add plenty of napkins!

Certainly, you may use any sauce, whether it be homemade tomato sauce (like this one) or choose to go the easy route with convenient off-the-shelf marinara sauce. Either way, this Italian meatball recipe is so good, they will be outstanding with any sauce you choose to use.
Italian Meatballs with Marinara Sauce

 Meatballs with Marinara Sauce

1/4 cup    milk
2 slices    sourdough bread
1   onion
1/2 cup    parsley
2   eggs
1 1/2 Tbs    garlic powder
1 tsp    Mrs Dash Salt Free seasoning
1 tsp    pepper
1 1/2 lbs    lean ground beef
1 1/2 lbs    ground pork, (have the butcher grind up some pork butt for you)
1/2 cup    grated parmesan cheese
26 oz    marinara sauce (store bought, Trader Joe's-no salt added)

1 Preheat oven to 350*.
2 Soak bread in milk for 10 minutes.
3 In your food processor, chop the onions. Add the eggs and pulse to mix. Add the parsley, spices and bread with milk and pulse again to chop. Remove to a large bowl.
4 Add the meats, cheese to the onion mixture and mix well by hand.
5 Using moistened hands, shape meat mixture into 36 meatballs.
6 Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Add the meatballs and brown on all sides. Remove to baking dish. Pour marinara sauce over meatballs and bake for one hour.
