Easy Pie Crust Recipe

An easy pie crust recipe can be really simple to make. There are many different ways to prepare a flaky pie crust, but the old fashioned American pie crust recipe,

whether it is made with soft shortening such as this recipe calls for, or part shortening part butter or even all butter, as your mother and grandmother used to use, there are two must follow rules.

Everything, all the ingredients need to be cold. And second, the pie crust needs to be made quickly. That is why this easy, flaky pie crust recipe always comes out flaky. By using your food processor, the crust can be made in mere seconds.

It is not by chance that great cake bakers are poor pie makers. The proven techniques for each type of baking are quite the opposite.

Easy Pie Crust Recipe

 Flaky Pie Crust

1 1/3 cups    flour, chilled
1 Tbs    sugar, chilled
1/4 tsp    salt
8 Tbs    Crisco shortening, chilled
3 Tbs    water

1 Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and place in your refrigerator for at least one hour to chill well. Then, place the dry ingredients into your food processor fitted with the metal blade, or mix by hand.
2 Add the chilled shortening and cut in until crumbly.
3 With the processor running, add the water through the feed tube, or slowly mix in by hand.
4 On a floured board, using a floured rolling pin, roll out to slightly larger (about 2" per side larger) than your pie plate.
5 Carefully roll up the crust onto your rolling pin, and gently unroll it into your pie dish. Place it carefully into the dish, and crimp the top edges. Prick it all over with a fork.
6 Fill or bake as desired:
7 Bake in a preheated oven at 375* for 10 minutes, watching that it doesn't "bubble up". If it does, poke lightly with a fork.
